Our Vineyard

Great wines come from great grapes. We invite you to explore the unique geology, topography, and climate of our estate vineyard blocks that, coupled with our meticulous farming methods, allow us to produce such extraordinary wines.

Estate Vineyard Block Map

Our estate vineyard is located in the heart of the McMinnville AVA, the westernmost grape growing region of the north Willamette Valley. Its proximity to the Van Duzer Corridor, and the resulting warm days and cool nights, allows us to produce Pinot Noir of extraordinary depth and complexity, and white wines bursting with fruit and bracing acidity. Due to a diversity of soils, each of our estate vineyard blocks has unique aspects that imbue themselves into our wines.

Farm Management

We take our farm management very seriously and our goal is to continue to build the health and vitality of our ecosystem.

First of all, we have exclusively farmed our property organically from its inception.Ā  We do not use any glyphosate on our property and utilize state of the art environmental and imaging technologies to inform our farming decisions.

We are a “no-till” vineyard and believe in building the soil food web and encourage regenerative agriculture to continue to build the tilth and of our land.Ā  Furthermore, we endeavor to farm our property as holistic ecosystem.Ā  We have left half our property to its native environment which creates a healthier environment and allows our land to be a net carbon sequestration sync. Regenerative viticulture is clear way we can help find a path to a cooler planet.

Please come visit and see what makes this place such a special place to live, grow and thrive.

Coeur de Terre Heritage Blocks

Once a particular block of vines defines itself and shows its unique qualities each vintage, it is added to our Heritage Blocks.Ā  Typically, these are our older blocks, each with its own unique terroir.

Renelle’s Block

Located at the entry to the vineyard, this block was planted by Scott, Lisa, and a few friends in the spring of 1999 as the first step on a wonderful journey. With nine different clones of Pinot noir, it is the “mother block” from which the rest of our estate vineyard Pinot noir vines are sourced. Facing directly south and consisting of sedimentary soils with a high alluvial content, the wines from this block exhibit a powerful expression with notes of blueberry and spice. This block is dedicated to Scott’s mother, Renelle Lynn Neal.

Abby’s Block

Our daughter Abby joined us in 2002, as did the block dedicated to her. Located mid-slope at 400ā€² elevation, Abby’s Block consists of sedimentary soils with an incredibly unique composition. South-southeast facing, this is our latest ripening block, producing wines with a more reserved finesse and layers of texture classic to Pinot Noir. This block is dedicated to our eldest daughter, Abigail Parker Neal.

Sarah Jane’s Block

The second block planted on the estate (2000), Sarah Jane’s is the first Selection Massale (multi-clonal) planting of Pinot noir with vines we grafted ourselves from our “mother block” – Renelle’s. Comprised of classic Willakenzie soils, its due south exposure gives wines from this block a unique strength and minerality, commonly expressing notes of blackberry with brambly textures. This block is dedicated to three family members who share this ancestral name.

Tallulah’s Run

Planted in 2003, Tallulah’s Run is a combination of two separate blocks running contiguous to each other mid-slope in the estate vineyard. Both have south-southwest exposure with soils ranging from fractured siltstone to sandy loam. The diverse soil patterns and varying topography of the blocks produce wines of great depth, complexity, and signature dark fruit overtones. Tallulah’s Run is dedicated to our youngest daughter, Tallulah Renelle Neal.

Other Blocks

More recently come to our estate vineyard are blocks of Chardonnay, Pinot gris, and more Pinot noir.Ā  Additionally, we have two small blocks of Riesling and GrĆ¼ner Veltliner.
